6G Platform
News
The white paper “German Perspective on 6G” is now available! This groundbreaking document, developed by over 170 experts from the 6G Platform Germany, offers comprehensive insights into future use cases, technologies and requirements of 6G in Germany and Europe.
DownloadObjective
The objective of the project “Platform for Future Communication Technologies and 6G (6G Platform Germany)” is to make scientific contributions to the content design of 6G as well as to ensure the scientific and organizational support of the processes required for the successful implementation of the German-European 6G programme. To this end, harmonization with international regulation and standardization will be promoted and opportunities for participation by society and industry will be created. Accordingly, the 6G platform ensures that user groups that are not actively involved in mobile communications research can also contribute to the identification of 6G lead applications and requirements. The focus is on ensuring the efficient harmonization of visions and concepts with the aim of defining a uniform German position. The necessary comprehensive and inclusive consideration of as many stakeholders, projects and key parties as possible is part of the accompanying research activities of the 6G platform. This takes into account the fact that the definition of 6G is a dynamic process with agendas that are currently still changing dynamically.
Scientific contributions of LITES
The scientific contributions to 6G Platform deal in particular with issues of high social relevance. In addition to internal scientific communication as part of the 6G initiative, the 6G platform is also aimed at recipients outside the scientific community. Space is created for dialog, which is intended to reach broad sections of the population, from technology-savvy groups to those less interested in technology. This will generate the broadest possible participation in the innovation potential of 6G in society at an early stage, which will also benefit the economy in the long term. Overall, the 6G platform makes an important contribution to the development of a 6G ecosystem and thus to advancing Germany’s technological sovereignty in future 6G technologies.

Working groups
The Institute for Smart Electronics and Systems is focusing on harmonizing the various use cases from the 6G-BMBF initiative. With the aim of advancing standardization, various applications are to be identified and their requirements defined. This is addressed in the working group 6G ROADMAP “Future Lab – 6G for Smart Cities, Networked Mobility, Campus Networks” with the Technical University of Berlin as co-leader. The instutute also shares the management of the working group 6G TRUST “Trustworthiness” with the Barkhausen Institute, which focuses on the coordination of 6G security requirements and concepts. The aspects of dependability (including availability, reliability and resilience), verifiability, controllability, operational security and, in particular, the areas of data protection (privacy) and data security are considered.
To enhance the resilience of future networks such as 6G, the integration of fundamental principles at all system levels will be necessary. To provide new impetus for this development, the working group “Resilient-by-Design” was established as part of the 6G Platform Germany.
